Very easy to use and so far seems to do everything that it is supposed to do.
Several reviews indicated problems with connecting/printing to and from the computer.
I had no problem connecting or printing.
Just follow the instructions.

A bunch of reviews talk about issues with connectivity to a PC, but I think the most important thing is: "Does it work?"

The answer: Yes!!

I recieved it in two days with free shipping, and immediately plugged it into my troublesome car. I really didn't want to give my dealership another $50 just to plug their OBD, and who know how much to fix the issue. After telling the 9580 what my car was, it immediately gave me my error codes and possible fixes, which I will decide to do or just ignore. (My car has ~195K, and I'm not sure if I want to put any more money into it.) The good thing is I have a choice. I don't want a dealer telling me what I have to do, and at what price.

The bad (or just annoying):
-If you look at the picture, the key layout is a bit illogical. Shouldn't you put the up arrow at the top and the down arrow at the bottom.
-I noticed the programming date and it is ~Jun 2010, so obviously they don't support newer cars.
-As others have reported, you can't update it.

Hi due to my profession I can not tell you the Exact combination you need but it Doe's work it prints data you can send results to email you can save copies and much more.most peoples problems are not operator erro there hardware erro.mine works fine and does all advertized.due to laws protecting Mfg's of computer hardware I can not reveil the company's that the device does not work with and there are many.the devices software was writin back when computers had open bios chip sets from there your going to have to figure that out yourself but it does work and very well.

This product is the same one that is sold/rented at Autozone stores and I like it better than the regular model because of the carrying case that it comes in. For the price this is quite a versitile OBD II code reader with the ability to monitor vehicle sensor outputs realtime to assist in the diagnosis of engine issues. This autoscanner will only read ABS codes for the American car manufacturers, but it does read all other codes for all other vehicle manufacturers. I have used this particular unit on a 2004 Toyota and a 2006 Ford/Mercury without any issues. With the amount of sensors in todays vehicles, I don't take trips anywhere without my Actron CP9580 in my toolbox just in case I have to try to fix the vehicle on the road far from home.

This is the most useful tool I think I have every purchased. Not only am I able to read the codes on all of my vehicles, but it gives me the most likely fixes for each code. I own foreign and domestic vehicles, and this tester works on all of them, including the ABS codes.

I reviewed all to many reviews before purchasing this product. I plugged this product into my 2004 Tacoma, figured out the problem and reset the check engine light. Problem gone. I do not think I will plug this unit into my computer so I cannot comment on what others have commented on the online software. Overall I am quite satisfied with this product.

Unfortunately this device does not work on my vehicle.

I live in Australia and have a 2002 Hyundai Elantra. The vehicles make and model can be selected from the list in the device setup however it will not communicate when connected ('link error'). I understand the protocol used on the same car in the US is OBD compliant. The make and model is available in the setup procedure so I assume it works in the US but for some reason it won't work in Australia.

I tried it on a later model Elantra in Australia (2004) and it connected but the functionality appeared very limited. It appears this technology in Australia is very 'hit and miss' for vehicles manufactured before 2006.

This is very disappointing but I have no problems with the supplier. The device arrived promptly and in excellent condition. The technical support provided was also very good. The durability and feature set is excellent for the price.

I accept full responsibility for the compatibility problem. I researched the issues as much as possible before purchasing however information is difficult to obtain on foreign vehicles and it is not possible to 'try before you buy' because they are not sold here. I was prepared to take the risk but it didn't work out.

Nevertheless I will keep the device and try it on later model cars.

Purchased because of ABS/Traction Control lights illuminated. At $100/ea for ABS sensors, I came out ahead buying this and finding our that the problem was the right rear sensor. Our cars are getting up in miles, and I expect this tool to come in handy a lot in the future.

Since I'm still learning on how to use this gizmo I can't really explain how to proper use it right until I master it. However if you plan on odering one I suggest you add to your cart 4 AAA batteries, you don't need them because it will turn on when you plug it in on your car without the batteries. But if you want to mess with it away from your car and in your room or somewhere indoors then you'll need the batteries. I still enjoy my Diagnostic handheld device.

In my teens I spent a lot of time with my uncle and his trusty Sun Tuner troubleshooting thousands of cars. So to be able to have most of that PLUS over 3 million ASE mechanics verified fixes all contained in a hand held unit is simply amazing!

Have tested it on my 2000 Saab that had an intermittent fault incorrectly diagnosed by my trusted shop as a mass air flow sensor issue. Using the CodeConnect diagnosis, research on Internet forums, and further conversations with the shop owner, we have finally isolated the problem as the throttle body. I don't know how I lived without a code scanner before... I was also able to reset a ton of old codes in my 2000 BMW Z3.

I also highly recommend spending the extra $10 for the case to protect this investment.

 it was not easy, but I have installed the software for scannner on windows 7 64 bit. it is running and I can print from it. There are no updates but I think it is all running ok. If can do it you can too as I am not high tech. I started by downloading 32 bit explorer and then downloading 64 bit drivers. It is working so maybe they fixed it before I did it. Great product now

Order came on time. Did a great job connecting with both m 99 buick regal and 04 mazda rx-8. Unfortunately it did not have a code connect for the mazda code, maybe didn't need one since code was o2 #2 sensor bank 1. Replaced the o2 sensor and it fixed the check engine light. On the buick it read a code P0300, multiple misfire, but also didn't give an code connect to try and isolate the fault. Looking for one more benifit of the code reader to recoup my investment. Good product and like the data recod feature.

I Bought this unit to replace a much older Actron code reader and was impressed with its ease of use. It seems to do just as promised by way of not only giving you the code number but also explaining it in greater detail then my older unit. The CodeConnect button seems to aid somewhat but beware it keeps its answers shorts and rather techy, so you need to know your way around a car a bit more then the avarage Joe for it to realy pay off. It seems to read the ABS codes right on my 04 Ford Explorer. All in all I would have say I think its well worth the price I paid for it.

I would buy it again. It helped me to see live data. Was able to check my abs problems on my 2003 Chevy S10 and clear the codes. When I drove it after clearing the codes it set one current code which helped me diagnose the real problem. It works well.

Bought this scanner as a low cost alternative to just pretty much pull codes. It's actually a decent unit. I just don't have several thousand dollars and no longer work in the auto industry to warrant that outlay of cash. I haven't tested out all of the functions yet but overall it seems like a nicely made, well thought out unit. It also reads ABS codes which is a plus.

Beats the heck out of having to pay a service station $75 or there abouts when your "check engine" light comes on and you just want to know whats wrong with your car.
Usually it's something you can fix your self or put off for awhile if it's not something too serious. Had a Snap-On 2500 scanner for years, cant get cartridges anymore and the one's
you do find cost more then buying a new scanner like the Actron. Dont think they even support the Snap-On anymore anyway. Be prepared to lend it to all your freinds once they find out
you have one and know what it can do - save all of you money. great buy.

I am a pro mechanic 15+ years, this scanner is an excellent value it has done everything that I have needed it for I also have a snapon scanner but a lot of times I use the actron because it is small and quick so far every answer with the codeconnect has been right on, for the diy or weekender you could plug scanner in and trust what it says the repair is..as far as the comment about it working only on one vehicle that is false I use this on almost every job I get.

Actron 9580 identified my ABS failing component.
I bought the Actron CP9580 to diagnose ABS failure on my 2004 Ford Explorer. Within 10 minutes of opening the box, I knew exactly which speed sensor had failed. I spent about 5 minutes glancing at the instructions, and then another 5 minutes connecting the tool, and reading the error codes. After buying a new sensor, I spent probably 30 minutes installing it. Problem solved!
As stated in some other reviews, make sure it supports your vehicle. It definitely pointed me in the right direction for an ABS failure on a 2004 Explorer.

This product does exactly what it is supposed to do. It is easy to use and easy to read. There is no fuss or bother, just hook it up and it reads everything it says it will. It paid for it's self inside of the first use by the money that was saved.

Great price and does everything that was written about it. user friendly, nice case, very long chord, so no need to buy an extra chord. I needed a cost effective scanner that does abs and obd2 and this appears to be it. my old scan tool was not working on all vehicles, so it was time to update. I did not receive a code to work on the repair pal.com and emailed them for it. Also I went to register and it says the sn was already taken. hopefully they resolve that quickly. Used on 2 vehicles and works easy. Also can read data, so that is more than the normal readers.

So I was really discouraged by all the negative reviews of OBD Scan Tools. There always seemed to be one thing that most people agreed they didn't like. But realizing that in the last twelve months I've but over a grand into my two vehicles and following a real mess at a local repair shop where they argued with me about what I was told initially and even my paperwork, compounded by the fact that although it was a free service I was tired of going to my local auto parts store to have codes pulled. I decided it was time to break down and make a decision. Here's my perspective on these tools. First, don't buy the "Swiss Army Knife" types. If it seems like a gimmick, it always is. Secondly, (and this is what I was hung up on) forget OBD I! For most of us, our days of driving anything pre-96 is over.

This tool (CP9580) had everything that I wanted. It pulls, displays, and clears all generic OBD II diagnostic and trouble codes from all cars and light trucks regardless of make and model sold in the US. (Though all scanners will as well.) It does support ABS codes for the "Big Three" domestics. This model is USB updateable which is still a rarity for some reason. (Although I have yet to update it. I will post again when I do.) This is kind of gimmicky but the "code connect" feature give a list of a number of top reported fixes based on trouble codes. However I'm not a huge fan of this since a code error from one system can obviously be a symptom of an issue in another system. Finally it displays live data which I figure has already paid for the cost of the unit for me. Following my less than pleasant experience referenced above with my 05 Lancer, about a week after receiving the car back I got another check engine light AND my idle was a little fast (but no code). The according to the live data the throttle at idle is registering slight pressure. The unit does not require batteries to operate, however it will work and store data when not connected to the vehicle with 4 AAAs.

All in all, this unit (thus far) seems to be a well rounded device that is geared towards the weekend repairman. It will save you hundreds if you have a few basic tools, the internet, and a little know-how.

Works on my 2002 Honda Accord. The diagnostic mode is really nice. It pulls codes as it should and gives you a generalized meaning to what they are so you don't have to go looking them up somewhere.

When I received the scanner first thing I did was to update the software. I find hard time but figure it out later. I used the scanner on my uncle's honda pilot 06, plymouth voyager 97 and to my Toyota RAV4 07 good thing it fix and diagnose all the problems. I will recommend this tool to my DIY friends.

I bought this product after many frustrating hours dealing with my truck. It saved me lots of time and money being able to diagnose the problem without going through a laundry list of possible fixes. The code connect feature saves a lot of time by telling the most frequently reported fix for the particular code. My only disappointment with the product is that the software does not come with the machine and you have to download it off the internet. I am not good with computers so this was a problem for me. All in all it is a great product and I would reccomend it to anyone.
